Rotarians Against Malaria & Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd
David Pearson is the National Manager of Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) an activity of Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd of which he is a Director. RAM has been active in supporting local health authorities to control malaria in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea since the early 1990’s and in Timor Leste since 2004. Dave is a Geologist who has managed mineral exploration teams operating in remote parts of PNG and Indonesia where malaria was a significant workforce health issue. With degrees in Science and Economics, he was employed in the Mining Industry for 25 years before purchasing a sheep and cattle farm, which he has been operating since 2001, providing practical experience in agricultural chemicals, managing vectors and parasite resistance.
Dave has been active in the Rotary organisation since 1992 and Rotarians Against Malaria since 2012. Like most Rotary positions the current role is entirely voluntary.
As a Civil Society organisation, RAM collaborates with the national malaria programs in PNG Solomons and Timor Leste as well as other NGOs such as the Global Fund, Against Malaria Foundation and PSI. RAM pioneered the universal distribution of LLINs in Solomon Islands and PNG and continues to assist with LLINs and other forms of vector control and diagnostics as well as constructing support infrastructure and trialling malaria elimination strategies.
