Dr Jack Richards MBBS, FRACP, PhD, MPH, DTM&H is Head of the Malaria and Tropical Diseases Group at Burnet Institute and is a practicing Infectious Diseases Physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has academic affiliations with the University of Melbourne and Monash University.
His research group seeks to bridge across the domains of basic science, clinical medicine and public health policy and implementation. This includes the development of novel diagnostic and surveillance tools for infectious diseases, with a strong emphasis on industry engagement and field deployment. These tools are combined with high precision geospatial mapping to target disease control and prevention strategies. The group also seeks to characterise antibody responses that confer protection from malaria and use this knowledge for subsequent malaria vaccine development.
The group has ongoing collaborations in Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Sri Lanka.
